Synfig Studio is a free to use and open-source 2D animation program, developed as a strong industrial-strength tool for making film-quality animation using a vector and bitmap artwork. It removes the need to make animation frame-by frame, enabling you to create 2D animation of a better quality with fewer people and resources. Synfig Studio is ready to use for Windows, MacOS X and Linux.
Features:
Spatial resolution-independence
Most elements are vector based, and all layers are parametrically created, hence even when customizing the target resolution of a project, the only pixelation will happen in imported raster images, not the integrated components.
Temporal resolution independence
Animation-keyframes are directly interpolated by the PC, resulting in nice motion.
High Dynamic-Range Imaging (HDRI)
By working with floating-point math in the image calculations, HDRI processing enables canvases to internally understand a larger range of pixel luminance, developing in better lighting effects, and enhanced color composition.
Pentablet-friendly tools
The draw program already reads the stress sensitivity channel off your preferred tablets, for natural line weighting, and more to come!
Artist-oriented design
While it may not be clear in this early stage, Synfig has been developed from the ground up with animation workflow in mind.
Path-based Gradients
Unlike entirely SVG-based vector software, and most consumer-level animation tools, Synfig has complete support for gradient paths - gradients that pursue along a drawn shape. This enables artists to simply add soft shading to animation without to worry of painting it onto every frame.
Layers
Synfig is compatible with a lot of layers of various kinds; gradients, geometric, distortions, filters, transformations, fractal and a few others.

Pros
- Once you figure out the interface, it works well.
- Several examples come with the application.
Anime Studio is an animation app that makes it easy to draw backgrounds, create and animate 2D characters, insert dialog and soundtrack and, if you want, publish everything online. A pinch of Adobe Photoshop, a handful of Adobe Illustrator, and a hint of Adobe Flash. Creating an animation in Synfig Studio is really easy. It basically means to change a drawing — you just need to create the first stage and last stage of a change, and Synfig takes care of the steps in between. Let's look at a simple example. Consider a moving light like the one at the front of the Knight Rider car.
